#21 Build It and They Will Come

When Noah Built the Ark…

No doubt you’ve all heard the story of Noah’s Ark? It goes like this. Noah was told to build an ark. He was given strict instructions that he must turn the ark into reality otherwise mankind and the entire animal kingdom would be lost for all eternity. Noah was also given guaranteed assurance that when the ark was built the animals would come. You know the rest.

The story of Noah’s Ark got me thinking about how we build our businesses to encourage people to come to us. Is that how you operate your business? Are you building or have you built an ark for your animals to find shelter in for 40 days and 40 nights?
In the past month I have noticed a number of positive changes in my business, particularly in the area of business growth. The ark I have been building is pretty watertight, it’s very well made, and fingers crossed it will float when the tide rises.
So how does the concept of “build it and they will come” relate to my recent business growth?
Over the past six years my business has evolved with the range of changing opportunities presented and actioned. During this evolution I have continued to build on the original strong foundation of my business. The foundation proves to be sturdy and it has withstood the waves to date.

What has changed is that more business is coming to me based on referral and recommendation, giving me the opportunity to step back from the edge of my ark and to enjoy the vision of the dove flying toward me. Because I have prepared and built a solid structure (because someone told me too – me), the people (animals) are coming to do business on board my ark.

Once on board, my greatest responsibility to take care of the people who’ve come (and exceed their expectations), to provide them with what they came for, and to help them “stay dry” for the duration they require.
What can you do to build the best ark for your business?
Chances are when you do it well with a good sense of direction, focus and commitment, the people will come marching toward you two by two.
