#6 Why the 21 day rule works

Why the 21 day rule works

Who’s heard of the 21 day rule? It’s a method of doing/saying/being something for 21 days, in effect to make it become a habit. Think about what you do on a habitual basis in your current life. On a daily basis you more than likely eat meals, brush your teeth, use a telephone, watch TV or work on a computer. These are habits that you have built up over a period of time.

But what about adding some progressive habits to your life, for business or pleasure, to perhaps make a change or changes to your life or to improve yourself or your business? To quote a friend’s post on Facebook, “Life is like a plastic snow dome…sometimes you gotta shake it up and change the scenery! ”

10 things to get your 21 day habit started…

To give you a few ideas to kick start a change in your life, here is a list of ten things you could consider doing:

1. Write a daily article or blog and link it to article directories and social media networking sites to market you and your business.

2. Meditate each day for at least 10 minutes to review your day ahead, to be thankful and to ask who you can help.

3. Join Twitter and post regular tweets and comments. Share your experience, knowledge and advice to help others.

4. Set up a Facebook page to keep in touch with friends or to promote your business. Add regular posts, articles and comments.

5. Set aside one day each week purely for marketing your business i.e. Monday

6. Meet a friend for coffee to clear the cobwebs, refresh your thoughts, and enjoy a little laughter.

7. Read each day, during a break, at lunch time or before sleeping. Alternate your reading material between pleasure and business.

8. Network on a regular basis to promote yourself, to grow as an individual and to build a useful set of associates and suppliers.

9. Go to the gym or a regular fitness/hobby class. Exercise and creativity encourage a revival of body, mind and spirit, taking you away from the pressures and demands of everyday life.

10. Volunteer to help a local charity. Give a little of yourself and your time.

Remember consistency and commitment are keys to making the 21 day rule a success, so stick at it. It would be great to hear about what success you have, so email your stories to me.
